Sep 17 - Interurban and Green River Trail

Time to ride, well, maybe after breakfast and I reassemble the trikes which are currently locked in the rental van.

Reassembling went reasonably quick as I have done it before and practicied it many other times.  I did make a note to myself several times that I really didn’t clean the trikes as much as I should have before boxing them for the trip.  Fortunately the misty skies kept back their moisture and the trikes were ready to go within an hour.  Nothing was broken or bent from the travel and there were no leftover parts.  So I took the win.

Today’s ride made use of the Interurban Trail and the Green River Trail.  Both are urban based rides and scenery is really not the guiding factor.  But both trails are excellent for riding and would be great alternatives for local cyclists heading towards the downtown Seattle zone.

Reminds us of riding in Anchorage … green all around.

Paralleling the train tracks … lots of interesting graffiti

We started on the Interurban Trail in Auburn, turned north to cycle until we came to the intersection with the Green River Trail.  While the Interurban Trail is straight following a power line corridor, the Green River meandered along its namesake river until we crossed paths with the Interurban Trail at mile 17 of the ride.  Apparently we could have continued on the Green River to take us to downtown Seattle but we aren’t city riders by any means and it was time to head back.

The ride back was uneventful with the exception of an annoying squeak that started coming from the PedalPushin Wife’s trike.  I tried one quick solution but really need some dedicated bike grease.  So after arriving back at the hotel, we collected our boxes and extra bags (to be dropped off at some friends’ house for the duration of the trip) and made our way to the Bonney Lake Bicycle Shop.

The shop turned into quite a treat as they also run the Ice Cream Shoppe next door.  The shop gave me a grease packet for free and we enjoyed a hamburger and fries while sitting at a quaint 50’s themed Ice Cream Shoppe.  An excellent way to wrap up our first day of cycling.

Today's ride: 31 miles (50 km)
Total: 7,779 miles (12,519 km)
