Oct 6 - Banks Vernonia Trail

We’ve been looking forward to this trail for quite some time based on videos and other trikers comments. We really “wanted” to love this trail but in the end there were a few too many “cons” to make this a top ten trail for us.
The setting is wonderful … woodlands, mostly quiet, nice location. The length was also wonderful allowing over 40 miles of riding minus the cars. But the trail surface was a major distractor as most, or at least it seemed that way, of the trail was a “one and done” type surface. Between the cracks, the rough pavement, the frequent root pushups and the varying widths of the trail, we could never seem to get in the groove of enjoying the full trail.
We started in Banks and really are climbing a mild 1-2% grade for the first 11 miles. This is rewarded when the last miles are on a similar downhill. We also encountered a lot of other trail users and notice that most if not all of the “racers” were a rather rude bunch rarely letting you know they were coming and simply ignoring most common trail etiquette.
But in the end, we were pleased to mark this one off our list though I doubt we would return.
Today's ride: 43 miles (69 km)
Total: 8,430 miles (13,567 km)
