June 24 - 30
Alaska summer cycling is in full swing now as the fire season officially kicked off and the smoke started filling the valley this week. At this time we have a rather large fire burning southeast of us that has consumed 150,000 acres. It is across the Tanana River which puts it in an area that is simply monitored with limited resources. Translation … the smoke goes where the wind goes and right now that is to our part of the state.

But despite the ugly smoke, summer still moves forward and a visit to the local greenhouse for a customer appreciation event yielded a couple of nicer things to look at.
So the trick during fire season is simply picking what time of day tends to have the least amount of smoke which tends to be in the evening as the winds pick up during the day. I did miss one day of outside riding as the numbers were simply too high.
This week looks like some rain is coming which we will all gladly receive though I DON’T like riding in the rain …
Today's ride: 207 miles (333 km)
Total: 5,451 miles (8,773 km)
