June 15 … The Bird to Gird Trail

With the weather on the exceptional side, mid 70’s, no rain, cloudless blue skies, this trail is simply a must do if you are in the Anchorage area.
The starting point in Indian makes way for a paved path that follows the Seward Highway to the winter resort at Girdwood, home of Alyeska Ski Resort. The path varies in quality but the views are simply outstanding on a blue sky day. Turnagain Arm, of Captain Cook fame, is on one side while the other is the mountains of Chugach State Park.
As the weather was so perfect, we actually saw a lot of cycling traffic today which was much different than in years past. The trail was in mostly good condition although a haircut would be most appropriate on some sections.

We turned around at the ski resort mostly because we can’t quite climb those ski slope grades.
Today's ride: 33 miles (53 km)
Total: 5,012 miles (8,066 km)
