Vancouver to Lisbon - Escaping the Rain--In Portugal - CycleBlaze

Vancouver to Lisbon

We are on our way and it finally seems real. Even yesterday, it didn’t. It was such a beautiful day as I packed my bike and finished packing the rest of my stuff that I wondered why we were leaving. After all, the “atmospheric river” had already passed through 10 days ago.  Then we went for a late-afternoon walk and the weather changed to light showers as we reached Ambleside, the park we often loop around on short walks.

This morning, the forecast looks dreary.

It’s a good time to go somewhere else. Maybe there will be snow on the mountains when we get back!

Patrick O'HaraIf it makes you feel any better about your choice to leave, it's dreary and pissing rain here the evening of the 30th!

Our flight isn’t scheduled to depart until 11:45 and the first leg is domestic, to Montréal, but we still head out early. It’s so much less stressful when we know we have lots of time to get off the North Shore, across Vancouver to the airport, check in, and clear security. Everything went smoothly this morning, though, so we have a couple of hours to hang around at the gate.

Waiting for our taxi downtown at the most convenient location.

On the Canada Line train with our packed bikes.

The flight to Montréal was uneventful, just the way we like it.  Our bikes are here and we have well over 3 hours for the connection so they should make it easily.

My bike is pretty close to where I’m sitting with my carry-on.

Update from Lisbon:  after another uneventful flight, we arrived and our bikes made it to the oversized baggage belt before we did. It was a long walk through the airport!  It’s possible to take the metro (with connection) to our hotel but we opted for a taxi. Our flight landed at 9:15 and we were checked in and our bags stored by 11:00!  Our room was not yet ready, of course, as we were well ahead of check-in time, so we headed out for an initial explore of the city.

Steve Miller/GrampiesGlad you had an uneventful travel day (the best kind). We are really!! looking forward to reading your blog, since in just 5 more days we will be back on the "wet" coast dreaming longingly of sunnier warmer places to be.

Jacquie GaudetTo Steve Miller/GrampiesThere’s a reason we chose November! It’s the dreariest month of the year for us—too dark and wet to really enjoy outdoor activities but too early for snow sports (usually).

Jacquie GaudetTo Patrick O'HaraIt’s our first time actually doing two in a year, if we don’t count Spain in November 2021 and then leaving for Italy 5 months after we got home.
