The ride to the airport
There was a lot of confusion at the hotel as to whether we could get a taxi big enough to take the bikes. It would probably have been OK but probably wasn't good enough for us so we decided to relocate to an airport hotel with a shuttle. It is only a short distance, we know the bike lanes around central Warsaw well now and as it was a Sunday the traffic wouldn't be heavy. It turned out to be very easy and we wish it had been a longer.
We left early and rode through the historic part of Warsaw. The cobbles are shocking but we wanted to see this lovely area one more time. They were setting up a market in a square in Nowe Miasto and the smells of the food cooking were delicious, I rather wished we hadn't just had breakfast. Then we came to the church that was the hospital in the Uprising. There were hundreds and hundreds of Girl Scouts all converging on it, I don't know how they would have all fitted in. Have no idea what it was all about. Then onto the wonderful new cycle track that took us across the city to reach the road that would take us to the airport. This is a broad avenue with beautiful trees. When we arrived in Warsaw 6 days ago the trees were green now they are golden. I didn't know they could change so quickly. This took us straight to the Hilton Hotel (cheap last minute deal) where we are staying. The woman at reception was wonderful and gave us a room straight away. We have pulled our trusty bikes to bits, they are safely in their bags in the luggage storage area - all we have to do now is get to the airport, check in and endure the flight. We leave at 2.45 pm Monday and arrive in Auckland 1.45 pm on Wednesday. In the meantime we are walking, relaxing, reading and enjoying this comfortable hotel
