Stockerau: getting ready for the next part of the trip
It was such fun when we walked down to the town for dinner last night - late for us about 7.30. The wine festival was in full swing, there was a great band playing and we certainly had the wrong dress code - they were all in Lederhosen or Dirndls. Strum and other fluids were being drunk and you could buy all sorts of food and sit at long tables to eat it. Everyone was in high good humour. We ate at a restaurant just on the edge of the festivities and I am sure they will have continued well into the night. It is so lucky that it was such a beautiful evening for them.
Our ride today was really just to reposition us for the next part of the trip. It was only 22km and even though we dawdled over breakfast we were here by 10am. Stockerau is pretty limited as far as accommodation is concerned and it was important to us that we had a really good room with good Wifi in order to launch ourselves off tomorrow. We are therefore at pretty great expense staying at the 4 star Best Western and I must say they have been great. The woman at reception even found me a cycle map of the part of Austria that we will need tomorrow and which was missing on our maps. There are about 5 English language TV channels
With all of this time at our disposal we decided to take the train into Vienna, about a 30minute journey. We poked around a bit and visited St Stephens and ate massive ice creams. Now we are back here and find that there is an organ concert in the local church this evening.
