A Circuit of Lopez Island
We set off following the "bike loop" suggested on the Lopez Island map published by Lopez Bicycle Works which I'd picked up on the ferry. We travelled clockwise, so as to pass through Lopez Village near the end of our loop.
The roads were quiet and pleasantly rural. Lopez Island isn't flat, as I'd once been told, but it's a lot less hilly than San Juan or Orcas. We had fun posing with the goofy road signs and I wish I'd taken more pictures. Something to look forward to for next time.
In Lopez Village, we discovered that there are public shower facilities in the park. We took advantage of them and then, cleaned up, enjoyed refreshments at Vita's. Then groceries and back to the campsite. We passed a third camping option between the village and Odlin County Park at Lopez Farm Cottages. They advertise that they have the only camping showers on Lopez Island and that they do not accept "children, pets, RV's, camper vans or electronic music." Might be worth looking into next time.
