Withlacoochee Trail South

Every day seems to develop a theme and today’s was counting cyclists, all kinds of cyclists.
The Withlacoochee Trail is a premier rail trail that resembles a cycling interstate. Paved, 46 miles one way, 20 feet wide, very little elevation, and easily navigated road crossings … plus a lot of cyclists.
We started in Inverness and rode south for 21 miles to the interstate crossing before returning. On the outward bound leg we saw 47 recumbent trikes, 12 recumbent bikes, 1 hand cycle, 1 velomobile and over 50 upright bikes. On the homeward bound leg, we saw 23 recumbent trikes, 7 recumbent bikes, no hand cycles or velomobiles and over 85 uprights. It was actually quite amazing to see so many recumbent trikes. Some may have been repeats but … wow!
After completing our ride we opted to go west to the shoreline for a sunset and quickly found ourselves in prime position for the show. Lisa got her wish of getting her feet in the sand, I got my wish of not getting my feet in the sand and sun slowly set until tomorrow’s ride.
Today's ride: 42 miles (68 km)
Total: 93 miles (150 km)
