Long Leaf Trace

It’s been quite a while since we first cycled Mississippi on the Natchez Trace Parkway but we found ourselves on the Tanglefoot Trail last September and almost every cyclist we saw mentioned the Long Leaf Trace in southern Mississippi. So we decided it was worth a look.
We met some family who were coming back from the Florida coast and we set on for a leisurely ride on this fantastic trail. The trail is 44 miles long (one way) and is smooth, 15-20 feet wide, with railroad grades, and the community obviously takes great pride in this gem. Trailheads and benches along the way were maintained and I found out the trail heads had working vending machines, a Diet Coke on the trail? And only 50¢?
We ended up spending 5 hours cycling and chatting, no rush, no hurry. We even found a young girl who had a trail side stand selling water and small snacks.
Believe we will stick around the area for another ride before heading back to Florida for our final week of sunshine cycling.
Today's ride: 30 miles (48 km)
Total: 393 miles (632 km)
