Last day in Barletta

on the mend

We are a bit surprised to  recognize that we have been in Italy a week already! Time has been moving quickly but it is taking awhile for us to start cycling. Our cold symptoms are better and the weather is getting better too. Our  routine in Barletta today was similar to yesterday and there was not much new, except today we needed to change our room. By adding an additional day to our stay here,  we were required to move our gear down the hallway to a larger room as our room was needed.

We are staying at the Duomo Guest House.  The facility appears to be  a number of rooms in a wing of an old convent that have been beautifully renovated and turned into a small hotel. You enter the large building  through an oversized, arch shaped door directly across from the  Cathedral of Barletta. Inside you find yourself in a rough looking sprawling courtyard area. Crossing the open area to the far side is a  well worn broad marble staircase that goes up several flights to the top floor. Our secure bike storage was at the foot of the stairs. We found this small hotel was in a great location and a wonderful place to stay. The piazza also had a couple of  bars and restaurants that filled our room with the sounds of frivolity into the early hours.

Today we spent some time further exploring the town and resting as we will be starting to ride further south tomorrow morning.

Entrance into Barletta`s old section is through the bell tower on the right. We stayed on the far side of the basilica.
