In Barletta

rest day

Strange to have rest day when we have yet to even begin riding our bikes. But we woke up in Barletta to a grey showery wet day and quite stuffy heads. Is it a rest day or recovery day? Based on tomorrow's weather and our comfortable room we decided to extend our stay for even one more day. A slow start to the tour for sure, but the forecast is favourable and soon we will be riding along the coast under sunny skies!  Worth the wait.

An Italian breakfast  was provided by our host at a bar / restaurant just around the corner. Each breakfast coupon was good for a coffee, a juice and a baked good. The coffee was excellent but the stuffed with cream croissants, although delicious,  were far from a heart smart choice. Finishing up our breakfast we returned to our room dodging raindrops.

It rained most of the day and we spent our time nursing our colds, leaving our room only for meals. Lunch was at the Saint Patrick, a highly rated local Irish style pub and dinner was at La Pescheria, a small casual seafood restaurant. Both were very enjoyable. By the end of the day we were feeling much better. Another day of rest and we should be good to go.

Pat`s tuna and salmon tacos.

Steve Miller/GrampiesAn extra rest day at the beginning of a trip when you are sick can save you a week of slogging along if you push too hard to fast. Wise decision.
