Week 82: Seeing the sights: daytrip to Ginggis Khan statue and Terelj National Park

The enormous stainless steel Chinggis Khan on a horse statue about 40 km outside of Ulaanbataar. The pedestal building underneath is a nicely done museum.

The Chinggis Khan statue just outside of UB. A huge stainless steel "guy on a horse" statue built over a nicely done musuem. Obviously built to attract the tourist dollar, but still worth it.

Things are quiet now outside of tourist season, but the National Park valley is filled with tourist Ger camps and many ugly concrete hotels under construction.

Interesting details outside the meditation center. The top rail shows nirvana, the center rail regular life and the lower rail hell. We had never heard of a Buddhist hell but thought that was something the Christians invented.
