8/9/19 - Devil’s Lake to Beverly Beach State Park
Last night Rose rejoined me for the tour. She brought in some groceries that included a dozen eggs. We hard boiled half of them in my JetBoil. First time trying that.

We discussed trying to scramble some in the JetBoil as well. Earlier this week I sent home my collapsible skillet since I wasn’t using it and wanted the space.
We also walked down to the beach for sunset.
A family camping near us consisted of a mom, dad, and two daughters ages 14 and 19. They are from Quebec and were on two tandems. They have been taking tours since the older girl was four years old.
On my trip last summer I started ranking (in my own world) the campground restrooms/ showers with a grade A through F. Lowest was a C minus. Most were Bs (some + and some -), a few Cs, and very few earned an A. Well, the campground restroom/ shower last night gets a solid A. Cape Lookout from two nights earlier also is an A.
Beautiful weather today.....sunny, blue skies, cool, and a nice tailwind. Rose and I stopped a few times to take photos of the scenic Oregon coast. The initial uphill was long but not as steep as some have been.
You know those tsunami warning signs I have been posting? Well, I figured it out. “Leaving Tsunami Hazard Zone” is actually code for “get ready for an uphill climb.” And “Entering Tsunami Hazard Zone” is code for “downhill ahead.” It’s like a roller coaster along here. Finally spotted a sign that says Oregon had a tsunami in 1700. Not sure how long these signs have been here but it seems the evacuation plan is ready.
We had a nice lunch in Depoe Bay at Chowder Bowl. The chowder was delicious and the fried shrimp were too. Depoe Bay is a popular site for whale watching.
Otter Rock Road was a pretty Road that parallels 101 for a few miles and runs along the bluff. Interesting note. It was a one-lane road, and one way only. It also had a nice wide bike lane.
Tonight’s campground is Beverly Beach State Park. It is just off Highway 101 on the way to Newport. The food boxes have 110V outlets for charging as opposed to the USB in the previous two state parks. It’s all good.
Tomorrow we will go into Newport, catch up on laundry, then continue down the coast.
Crossed the 500 mile point today which feels like a decent milestone.
Today's ride: 21 miles (34 km)
Total: 511 miles (822 km)
