8/10/19 - Beverly Beach to Beachside State Recreation Area
A few days ago at the bike shop in Seaside they told me that the bike shop in Newport has free laundry for cycle tourists. The ACA map also indicates this, plus showers and a lounge for cyclists. Last night I called to confirm about the laundry and they said yes it’s free, as long as we make a purchase. Rose and I will be stopping there to catch up. She needs a new cycling mirror so this will work out all the way around.

After our usual breakfast we headed down to Newport. Traffic in town was busy and bike lane was not apparent, although the traffic lane was mostly wide. We arrived at the bike shop, Rose bought her mirror and I got the laundry going. It was a stackable unit so my clothes made a full load. We had plenty of time to spare so having two loads was fine. The upstairs “lounge” area is a large room where they hold yoga, kickboxing, and club meetings. What a great resource for cyclists touring through the area!
Here is Jody of Newport Bike Shop.
Before leaving Newport we made a grocery stop at Fred Meyer, so now we are set for a few days. About an hour later we stopped for a nice picnic lunch.

Before leaving our lunch stop I was asked about our trip by a retiree from Houston by the name of Carl. He was telling me how the agates are uncovered on the beach after certain weather activity. Then he gave me one that he found today, plus a limpet shell. (add photo)
Tonight we are camping at Beachside State Recreation Area near Wakonda Beach.
Today's ride: 28 miles (45 km)
Total: 539 miles (867 km)
