The Loneliest Place in the World

Rest & Recuperation in Erie

We stayed an extra day in Erie and rode unloaded tandems out on Presque Isle State Park.

It was windy enough the turkeys were walking but the herons were still wading. We may have seen a bald eagle.

You park a tandem wherever it is protected from the wind.

The lighthouse was built 150 years ago. One keeper complained it “was the loneliest place on earth”. Another lasted only 8 days. Duties included climbing the steps every four hours throughout the night to keep the lamp lit. Older men were perfect for this job.

This kite was huge. It was anchored to a log.
