On my ride into Eads I passed a turn off for the Sand Creek Massacre site. It was 8 miles down a dirt road so I never took it. In downtown Eads the National Park Service has a small museum devoted to this site. I went through it and learned a piece of history that was horrible and shameful. You can read details below

Keith AdamsSimilar to, and equally as tragic and shameful, as what happened to the Nez Perce at Big Hole. You'll pass that way when you're west of Wisdom, MT on your way to Chief Joseph Pass. I highly recommend a visit- it's right on the route.

Normally I would be riding today but since the high is going to be 102 degrees I am staying another night in a hotel in Eads. Next to the hotel is the only restaurant in town and it is a good one. Best omelette I have had on the road and good coffee

I went in, had a Coors and had a great conversation with Milton, the owner and bartender. A cowboy at heart who has a son on the professional rodeo circuit. We talked about the rodeo life, lack of water in the west, and about our families
