Day 19 - Land of Lincoln

Another biker, Felix from the UK. He had already ridden through France, Spain, and Portugal before catching a flight to DC and hopping on the Transamerica. I will likely not see him again since he is doing 80-100 miles per day

Crossed from Kentucky to Illinois today via a ferry across the Ohio river

Tried to follow the rules but I have no parking break or engine

On the Illinois side at a small town called Cave In Rock

Cave In Rock is friendly to bikers with a dozen of these bike “sculptures” in town

There is a sizable cave in the limestone cliffs facing the Ohio river. Outlaws used the cave to hide out. I am not a wanted man (yet), so I decided to ride on

Since my wife and several friends are geologists, had to include this

My wife (Elizabeth) and I stayed in Elizabethtown, KY before my ride. Now I am having lunch in Elizabethtown, IL

Staying the night at Hayes Canyon Campground, here is their sign pointing to the bathrooms

Today's ride: 46 miles (74 km)
Total: 969 miles (1,559 km)

Steve ClarkGlad you have left KY behind with all its hills and dogs. On to Carbondale and the Mighty Mississippi.

You must feel pretty happy to be making such progress after a twelve month pause. Enjoy the nation’s Memorial Weekend.
