On checking my itinerary I realised that with the changes I'm actually a day ahead, and rather than pay city hotel rates I've decided to spend the extra day right here.

Kaikoura is a typical seaside town with a long esplanade of Norfolk Pines along the shore. Quite touristy but not yet overdeveloped.

The beach though has no sand, just grey pebbles of many sizes.

It's a nice fine day today so I took a short ride around the local area.

Tomorrow I'm heading for Cheviot, inland from here. But before the road turns inland there's more of that delightful coastal riding that I enjoyed on the way down here.
