Koh Kong to Hat Banchuen (bye bye Cambodia, hello Thailand)
Bye bye Cambodia 🇰🇭 - hello beloved Thailand 🇹🇭
After a delicious omelette in the Apex Guesthouse we left for Thailand this morning. Sounds like a day trip, but it was only about 12 kilometers to the border.
But before we got there, Cambodia bid us farewell with a small but mean 8% ramp 😳🤨 puh
The border crossing was uncomplicated and strangely enough nobody wanted money for any stamps 🤔 Two years ago, when we left Cambodia, we experienced this in a different way and had now held back some well-preserved dollar bills for this purpose.
As soon as you are "over there", you feel like you are in another world. It is hard to describe. Actually it's only 200 meters - but the nature seems different, the roads are different (apart from the fact that you use the other side of the road), it's quieter and less hectic, the people are different (here nobody shouts "hello" at us anymore) - a different world.
After the border we followed the very well developed coastal road (Highway 3). Very nice to ride on. It goes up and down - not very high from the heights, but at least uphill up to 8 % gradient and 10 % gradient downhill - as the bike computer told us.
However, we didn't notice so much of the ascents steepness, because we could use the momentum of the descents very well most of the times - my personal top speed was exactly 55 km/h.
After this cheerful up and down - with a slight adrenaline kick or two - we turned off towards the beach path (follow the signs for "Meet the Beach Resort" directly at the turn-off).
The first beach we saw was unfortunately a bit littered. Not by beach visitors, simply the (frighteningly) normal sea garbage. 🙄🤨
We rode on until Hat Banchuen. It's signposted as a village, but I don't think it consists of more than a few offshore resorts, which look very nice from the outside, and a few restaurants. Our "Resort" (Pananresort) is attached to a restaurant, consists of three bungalows and is located directly at the beach - beautiful 😍 And 800 baht for an AC bungalow with 2 beds is ok.
It's very, very beautiful here - and absolutely quiet. More than the sound of the sea, cicadas and from time to time a moped can't be heard.
We already took a swim. But the bath was not very refreshing, because the water temperature is about 28 degrees.
By the way, I can estimate relatively badly. Distance, size, age - I am really bad at that. But I think you can imagine something by my estimation... 😉
Bicycles are also cleaned - we sprayed them with the hose - so we can lounge around here all day tomorrow and have nothing else to do but to go out for something to eat 😋🤤😋🤤

Bye bye Cambodia 🇰🇭 - hello beloved Thailand 🇹🇭
Nach einem köstlichen Omelett im Apex Guesthouse haben wir uns heute morgen auf den Weg nach Thailand gemacht. Hört sich an wie eine Tagesreise, waren aber nur ca 12 Kilometer bis zur Grenze.
Davor haben sie uns allerdings noch mal mit einer kleinen aber gemeinen 8 %-Rampe dran gekriegt 😳🤨 puh
Der Grenzübertritt war unkompliziert und merkwürdigerweise wollte niemand Geld für irgendwelche Stempel 🤔 Das haben wir vor zwei Jahren bei der Ausreise aus Kambodscha noch anders erlebt und hatten jetzt extra kleine guterhaltene Dollar Scheine zurück gehalten.
Sobald man “drüben” ist, fühlt man sich wie in einer anderen Welt. Es ist so schwer zu beschreiben. Eigentlich sind es nur 200 Meter - aber die Natur wirkt anders, die Straßen sind anders (mal davon abgesehen, dass man auf der anderen Straßenseite fährt), es ist viiieeeel leiser und weniger hektisch, die Menschen sind anders (hier ruft uns keiner mehr sein “hello” hinterher) - andere Welt halt.
Nach der Grenze sind wir zunächst der sehr gut ausgebauten Küstenstraße (Highway 3) gefolgt. Sehr schön zu fahren. Es geht auf und ab - von den Höhen nicht doll, aber immerhin auch bis zu 8 % Steigung und 10 % Gefälle.
Von den Anstiegen haben wir allerdings gar nicht so viel Böses mitbekommen, da wir den Schwung der Abfahrten jeweils sehr gut nutzen konnten - meine persönliche Höchstgeschwindigkeit lag bei exakt 55 km/h.
Nach diesem fröhlichen Auf und Ab - mit dem ein oder anderen leichten Adrenalinkick - sind wir Richtung Strandweg (Beschilderung Richtung “Meet the Beach Resort” direkt an der Abzweigung folgen) abgebogen.
Der erste Strand, den wir gesehen haben, war leider etwas vermüllt. Nicht von den unordentlichen Strandbesuchern, einfach der (erschreckenderweise) normale Meermüll. 🙄🤨
Wir sind weiter gefahren bis Hat Banchuen. Ist als Ortschaft ausgeschildert, besteht aber glaub ich nicht aus mehr als ein paar vorgelagerten Resorts, die von außen sehr schön aussehen, und ein paar Restaurants. Unser “Resort” (Pananresort) ist einem Restaurant angegliedert, besteht aus drei Bungalows und liegt direkt am Strand - beautiful 😍
Es ist sehr, sehr schön hier - und absolut ruhig. Mehr als das Meeresrauschen, Zikaden und ab und zu ein Moped hört man nicht.
Wir waren eben schon im Meer. Das Bad war allerdings nicht sonderlich erfrischend, da die Wassertemperatur geschätzte 28 Grad beträgt.
Ich kann übrigens relativ schlecht schätzen. Entfernung, Größe, Alter - da bin ich echt mies. Aber ich denke, man kann sich was drunter vorstellen… 😉
Fahrräder sind auch geputzt - also mit dem Schlauch abgespritzt - so dass wir morgen den ganzen Tag hier rum lungern können und nichts anderes zu tun haben, als essen zu gehen 😋🤤😋🤤
