Can Tho to Vi Thành
What a great day!
Yesterday evening we were forced to take part in the nightlife of Can Tho - several groups of children of different ages and quality - had dance and singing performances right across the street of our balcony. Actually quite cute - if not interested, you still could look the other way - but soooo loud that even the most reliable earplug had to fail...
This morning we started, after one of the best soups ever (already had it two years ago), towards Vi Thanh.
The first few kilometers out of the city we rode partly unconventional side streets or via markets thanks to maps.me. That was the rehabilitation for the app...
After that almost only on country roads. We crossed several dozen small bridges, which lead over brooks / river courses of different sizes - partly very idyllic.
The small town of Phong Dién attracted our special attention due to a very beautiful and well-kept river promenade and overall somehow appealing atmosphere.
On the way we noticed that there was much less karaoke than two years ago. At that time we could hear deafening "singing" from about every fourth house in the villages. This year we were largely spared - except for the last kilometres before Vi Thanh. But I guess we would have missed something otherwise...
What is simply great about the trips through the villages is the friendliness of the people.
If you could collect them - every "hello", every wave, every smile - and save them like Frederick the Mouse, you could probably live on them for a whole year! (Who does not know the book, should read it urgently! It’s not long and contains many pictures 😜)
Especially for the children you should always have a wave and a "Hello" ready. They are happy like crazy 🤗
The entrance road of Vi Thanh is impressive, but somehow does not reflect the city. We found a nice accommodation with a balcony. But apart from that, what we saw in search of food doesn't really appeal to us.
But that's the beauty of such a tour. Today we enjoy the evening on the balcony - and tomorrow we are away again...

Was für ein großartiger Tag!
Gestern Abend haben wir notgedrungen doch noch am Nachtleben Can Thos teilgenommen - etliche Kindergruppen unterschiedlichen Alters und unterschiedlicher Qualität hatten schräg unter unserem Balkon Tanz- und Gesangsvorführungen. Eigentlich ganz niedlich - zur Not kann man ja auch weg gucken - aber soooo laut, dass selbst der zuverlässigste Ohrenstöpsel versagen musste…
Heute morgen ging es dann, nach einer der besten Suppen überhaupt (die wir schon vor zwei Jahren entdeckt hatten), Richtung Vi Thanh.
Zunächst über ein paar Kilometer raus aus der Stadt - dank maps.me zum Teil durch sehr unkonventionelle Nebenstraßen oder über Märkte. Das war die Rehabilitation für die App…
Danach fast nur noch über Landstraßen. Wir haben mehrere Dutzend kleiner Brücken, die über unterschiedlich breite Bach- / Flussläufe führen, überquert - zum Teil sehr idyllisch.
Besonders positiv aufgefallen ist uns das Städtchen Phong Dién.
Eine sehr schöne und gepflegte Flusspromenade und insgesamt irgendwie ansprechend.
Unterwegs fiel uns irgendwann auf, dass es sehr viel weniger Karaoke als vor zwei Jahren gab. Damals war aus etwa jedem vierten Haus in den Dörfern ohrenbetäubender “Gesang” zu hören. Dieses Jahr sind wir - bis auf die letzten Kilometer vor Vi Thanh - weitestgehend verschont geblieben. Nicht ganz - sonst hätte uns auch was gefehlt…
Was bei den Fahrten durch die Dörfer einfach großartig ist, ist die Freundlichkeit der Menschen.
Könnte man diese - jedes “hello”, jedes Winken, jedes Lächeln - sammeln und speichern wie Frederick die Maus die Sonnenstrahlen, könnte man wohl ein ganzes Jahr davon zehren! (Wer das Buch nicht kennt, sollte es dringend lesen und vorlesen! Ist auch nicht lang und enthält viele Bilder 😜)
Insbesondere für die Kinder sollte man immer ein Winken und ein “Hello” bereit haben. Die freuen sich wie verrückt 🤗
Die Einfallstraße von Vi Thanh ist beeindruckend, spiegelt aber irgendwie nicht die Stadt wieder. Wir haben eine ganz nette Unterkunft mit Balkon gefunden. Aber ansonsten spricht uns das bisschen, was wir auf der Suche nach Nahrung gesehen haben, nicht besonders an.
Aber das ist ja das Schöne an so einer Tour. Heute genießen wir den Abend auf dem Balkon - und morgen sind wir wieder weg…
