Tours
The morning started with us back tracking for about 5km then we were travelling on a route we havent travelled before It was interesting agricultural country - mainly grapes But once more they have a very long way to go. Everything looked healthy but the crops were very light.
Everything was very well signed until Avoine then it all disappeared. This was where we were meant to reach the main Loire a velo route but there was absolutely no sign of it so we followed road signs on small roads taking us the the Chateau at Rigny-Usse. This was a lovely road undulating its way above the river flats so gave us a bit of a work out Rigny-Usse doesnt fail to delight it really is the most perfect fairy tale castle. The little town also had a boulangerie so our lunch supplies were in order. It was before ten so the cafe wasnt open and there was already a que of people waiting to get into the castle.
From here it we were quickly back onto the track. Now there were lots of other cyclists many of them touring. We always leave early, about 8am, to beat the heat and the wind so in the first part of our ride dont see anyone else but by about 10am the cycle traffic really heats up. The weather today for the first time for a while was clear and sunny but we had a pesky head wind. Coffee was at a Boulangerie at Brehement, on we pressed and by 11.30 were feeling hungry and looking for a place for lunch. The route into Tours is very complicated and several years ago we got horribly lost so this time we were extremely careful following all the twists and turns
We are staying at an Ibis fairly near the centre of town. Ken has had a good walk around but unfortunately although I am absolutely fine on the bike any distance walking is out of the question. I will explore Tours by bike in the morning as we leave on our way to Amboise
