Seligenstadt
We started the day by hunting out the cycle shop I had contacted last night. A bit of a ride through the outer suburbs of Frankfurt but we found it. It is closed on Tuesday but the shop looks fine quite unlike the ones we saw yesterday. We have a track now from our airport hotel to it so shouldn't have any difficulties
That over we were back on the path beside the river. The path is perfectly marked and skilfully winds its way through the massive amount of industry surrounding this big city. For some kilometres it goes through a park on the riverside and from here you can look across to the city. Frankfurt is a city that goes on and on and we were nearly here before we escaped industry and housing The Main is a much smaller river than the Rhine but it has a lot of commercial traffic on it. Some of the barges are huge and navigating them in such a tight space must require a lot of skill. A fair few of them were floating very high in the river, they must have taken their loads upstream and were coming back without a back load.
Seligenstadt is a wonderful old town with a market square surrounded by half timbered buildings. Unfortunately our hotel is out of this centre and is a comfortable modern building surrounded by other modern buildings. We will walk back tonight to have our dinner and soak up some of the atmosphere
