Saarbrucken: From France to Germany
The weather forecast for today was shocking rain all day and cold so we decided that we would do a really short day to Saarbrucken this would leave us two days of around 50km each to get to Trier. Our Chambre d’Hote had a breakfast that was off the same level as the room. We were seated with two young guys from the Netherlands on their way home from a holiday in Austria, Slovenia and Italy. They were good to talk to and had excellent English
Dawdling along we didnt get moving until 9.30 which is very late for us. The route all day was perfect and along either the canal or the river. It was today that we crossed the border between France and Germany. One of those miraculous coffee stops popped up at about half way. The woman who served us was lovely and we spent a very long time talking with her. She gave us a lot of insight into what she felt needed to happen in France and what people like her hoped that Macron would be able to achieve for the country - all very interesting. She said the next coffee shop we came to would be in Germany. On we went, we knew when we came to Germany because the colour of the bike signs changed. Shortly after that we came to the coffee shop. We were in a new country so we had to try out their coffee - cheaper than France.
Saarbrucken is a large city but it was easy to find our way. In the city centre we had a massive lunch at a backerie , walked through the pedestrian area and very easily found the Mercure Hotel were we are staying. Predictably the room is large and warm, the TV has English channels and the internet fast - I got the last two day’s photos on in record time
