Koblenz: Not a drop of rain fell on us all day
We were rather sad that today was our last day on the Moselle it is a wonderful Radweg with lots of interest along the way. For us the weather has been terrible but this hasn’t mattered too much we just put on more clothes and sheltered under bridges when necessary
The man in our wonderful hotel recommended that if we wanted to avoid mud we do the first 10km on the left side of the river then cross over to the right which would probably be more interesting. The only problem he said was that because of road works we would have to take a detour which lead us high up among the vineyards so this was what we did and it sure was steep. After another 10km or so the cycle path was right beside a busy road and poorly protected so we crossed over again. Now we were up amongst the vines again on an excellent track which was to continue all the way to Koblenz. We went passed many kilometres of these extremely steep vineyards with their rail systems going almost vertically up. At one place we came to they were working inside and there were 4 men on working beside a conveyer belt to remove the worst of the rotten grapes. The little towns we passed through continued to be lovely
Then it was over the bridge and we easily found our hotel. It is perfectly OK but after the splendour of last night feels a bit drab. This is a very import weekend in Koblenz with a massive festival on so it is no wonder we found finding accommodation a bit difficult
