Borbon Lancy
I think that Le Petit Robinson is about the weirdest place we have ever stayed in. It looks as if it should be full of families. There was one nice little French family with a little boy riding round and round on his bike. Apart from this it was full of strange young men who were doing all sorts of physical exercises. Ken said he though that they were suicide bombers planning their next attack. Inside our ‘mobile home’ it was extremely cramped and full of furniture so it was hard to move. The narrow bed was in a kind of cupboard and I thought it would be almost impossible to get in and out so chose to sleep on the sofa. It got very cold in the night though and I had to creep into the cupboard in the middle of the night.
We weren't sorry to eat our breakfast and move on. The ‘suicide bombers’ were up before us and beginning to move out - in reality I think they were probably itinerant workers doing some work in the district
Today we were away from the canal so it was quite different. It was through mixed agriculture country and Ken was really enjoying it. Naturally it was very up and down but we have been spoilt with all the canal and river bank riding. Part of the countryside looked run down but in other parts there was huge factory farming. In particular we went through kilometres and kilometres of the most magnificent looking soy beans. There were lots of centre pivots here for irrigation and they have a bumper crop this year. Although we were passing through small villages none of them had services until we reached Cronant. Cronant is set on a hill and has Le Hotel de Voyageurs - this is a a combined hotel, bar, restaurant, tabac, betting shop and depot de pain. We had good coffees and were suprised to see two other lots of cycle tourists go by, we really dont know how they can pass a coffee stop. Now that there are fewer cycling tourists we are much more likely to stop to talk to them. One was a French man going in the opposite direction he had come from Borbon Lancy and was complaining bitterly of the hills. The other group were a little family group with two children who would have been under two, they said that they were going about 30km a day and were not camping with such young children
We arrived at the lovely lake at Borbon Lancy. Kids were having fun and there were picnickers everywhere so we joined them before checking into our comfortable hotel.
