Blois
Last night we walked back to the pedestrian street to have our dinner. At 7.30 it was still heaving . The many restaurants were quickly filling up. Always concerned that we would be getting our last genuine galette we went to a likely looking crepiere and they didn't disappoint. Mine was full of lardons, mushrooms, potatoes, cheese and egg delicious. This was all washed down by excellent Breton Cidre
Our hotel supplied a regular but good French breakfast with the bread and croissants warm. Off we went and the first part was through the Pedestrian street. At 8.00 in the morning it couldnt be more different than it had been the evening before. The street was virtually empty and not a movement in the restaurants. In one there was a slight stirring as no doubt they were beginning to get ready for what would be another wild day in Amboise. The track rose extremely steeply taking us past Clos Luc (the last home of Leonardo de Vinci) then turned steeply left and took us high above the Chateau. Up here at first there was some very attractive housing before it gave way to a mixture of Grapes and other agricultural land. Although basically a plateau the small roads were undulating before they steeply descended to the river valley and we were put onto a track beside the river - it was cool, leafy and very relaxing riding. Into Chamount sur Loire it looked as if we should be able to get a coffee - we could have visited th Chateau but the best thing we could find was a Boulangerie to get bread for lunch
When we got to to Cande we found the grottiest bar we had seen and managed to get a coffee there. A pity we had stopped there because after an impossibly steep climb there was a fantasic looking cafe with lots of bikes parked outside. Things were then straightforward to Blois and there was a lovely park along the way for our lunch. We crossed the beautiful old bridge into the town and wandered through the streets confident we could find our way to the Ibis. We did but it was the wrong one so on we went up above the Chateau till eventually found our home for the night. Ken was keen to get here as he had been following the latest behaviour of Donald Trump on facebook and was keen to get the CNN fix he knew he could get at the hotel. It is abhorant that a President of the United States should express such views.
