Beaugency: Visiting Chambord for Jan
The favourite Chateau of my friend Jan is Chambord. Last time we were on the Loire we missed it so today we thought we must see it. This meant cross the old bridge onto the Southside of the river and taking a rather less well defined route. We were suprised just how long the outskirts of Blois went on for and we had gone all of 7 km before we were once again in countryside. I think that the route had changed considerably since our rather old map was printed so we were being constantly suprised by the names of the little villages we were passing through.. In Mountlivault we stopped for a rather elegant cup of coffee and were rather suprised when the woman told us where we were.. At Saint Dye sur Loire we came to signs pointing one way to where we needed to go and another to Chambord. It was only about 6km on a perfect cycle track to Chambord
Chambord was built in the 16th century as a hunting lodge for Francis 1 It is built in the French Renaissance style and set in a magnificent park. It is instantly recognisable by anone who has see photos of Chateaus in the Loire It certainly gives you are feeling of great splendour as you approach it, The notices tell you there are wild animals in the park which makes it feel even more special
Back to Dye sur Loire and on to Muides sur Loire where we crossed the river. The track from there to Beaugency although easy is rather lack lustre. Beaugency is a nice little town. We wandered around for a while till we found our hotel which is in a beautiful flower filled street with a little river running through the centre of it. The hotel, le Relaise des Templiers and is old, charming and comfortable with a large room
