I waited for it to warm up a bit before starting. This was all on roads - no trails. There were more hills than rail-trails have and some were surprised by the ascents. There was also a fairly strong head wind.
We stopped for lunch at Itasca State Park, near the headwaters of the Mississippi. Then off to the other end of the lake for lodging at the Clubhouse. The park was very scenic.
Throughout the 1800's there was debate and uncertainty about the headwaters. Lake Itasca was first proposed in the 1830's. It was proposed several more times over the years. Around 1890, a commission was created and they declared Lake Itasca. Several lakes and streams feed into Itasca, but they are not considered the Mississippi River.

The Clubhouse was an old building with two stories of rooms facing a central area. Sound really carried but everyone was tired and asleep early. I believe there were some flying squirrels around.
Today's ride: 50 miles (80 km)
