Getting ready to go
Thankful for some great weather!
With the coming of Fall, we have enjoyed some unseasonably warm weather, so while still making plans (reading more journals, creating maps, figuring out what to pack) we have tried to get out and ride as much as possible. Soon we will be in sunny, hot Austin, which will be great for helping us to get ready for the Yucatan, given that it is also a pretty humid place, but for the moment, we are enjoying the brisk rides we can do here. A couple of our favourites are the Parkway Trail

And then there is our ride to the Old Time Bakery in Ladysmith. The joy of doing this ride is that we burn up the calories we eat when we enjoy one of their famous cinnamon buns!
One of the challenges we have faced in our preparations has been in figuring out how to use the DaBrims that we ordered. They seem like a great way to add some sun protection, but we were stumped in our efforts to mount them to our helmets. Thankfully, a visit with our friends, Steve and Dodie, otherwise known as The Grampies, saw a resolution to our problem. Dodie expertly showed us how to attach them so that they won't come flying off at an inopportune moment. Dorky as they may look, it's all about the function here.
