Rüdesheim to Mainz

This morning we head back to the ferry to get back on our original route. Oddly, we've seen 5-6 people wearing Camp David shirts, which seems kind of weird. Did they all work there? Summer camp? I took this hip shot on the fly.

Bob KoreisIt's a German company. Been around for about 27 years. Put out cheap, trendy clothes.

The path turned to dirt for a while...

...with patches of mud, but nothing we had to pedal through. No problem going around.

George (Buddy) HallThe locals avoid the dirt section by riding a bit farther away from the river through a small village with paved roads. But unless you ride this route a lot, you would never know.

There was some construction but another biker told us it's okay to pass through and we had no problems.

Once in Mainz (pop. 217,118) there was traffic but, as always, it wasn't a problem.

We arrived at our hotel at 2:45, 15-30 minutes too early to check in so we went for some coffee/croissants. As we were deciding where to go Heather got stung on her left should by one of the bees we'd been seeing... the same kind that stung my nose a few days ago.

She googled a picture of the ones we've been seeing and it turns out that what stung us is actually a German Wasp, not a bee. This is one we saw later on an outdoor windowsill.

We meandered through Mainz and 20-25 minutes later ended up at Lehmanns Weinbistro where we ate dinner.

The "walk" and "stop" signs were cute.

I always enjoy reading the stickers on poles and signs. They give me a sense of what the town is like.

After we got back to the hotel a thunderstorm blew through. I love storms (especially when not camping), and we watched it through the window before climbing into bed.
