The first part of our route featured several miles of dirt through moors, reminding us of Ireland or Scotland.

Pavement with a tailwind. Woot.

Cliffs near the Sagres lighthouse. The wind was intense here, nearly blowing us over a couple times.

The author spent an hour this morning on various Garmin forums trying to problem solve his finicky gps. After a hard reset, I was able to synchronize ride with gps but not Strava routes. Or so I thought. One downloaded, another wouldn’t. Especially frustrating was following the exact steps that worked the first time didn’t a second or third. As a result, after a 15 year marriage, Chris divorced Garmin and ordered a Wahoo element bolt, which will be wait for him in Sevilla when he returns. Garmin is not intuitive and you have to go thorough several steps to download maps of your non-home region. Good riddance. I noted that many people on the Garmin forums have had the same problem as me, and there was no response from Garmin. So, one votes with one’s feet.

We had a beautiful ride down to the mostly SW point of Portugal. The several of miles of dirt made us happy that we rode 32 mm tires, but we concluded that we really did not have needed to pump up our tires before this ride. 32 mm were fine though, I wouldn’t recommend the route with 23 or 25 mm. While the day was dry, the wind again was strong out of the SW.

Stunning is an overused word today, but that is an apt description of the cliffs by Sagres. The noise from the waves and wind was deafening. A new bike path gave us 6 km of a tailwind and good surface back to Sagres, where we had a great lunch, in the sun, at Dromodoro. The draft ipa was a delicious accompaniment to our burger with goat cheese.

After lunch, the route followed old N258 for several car free miles. We stopped at the much more well stocked Intermarché on the N125 for our dinner and snack supplies, and got back to the house in time to watch the last 30 km of the Milan-San Remo race.

Today's ride: 51 km (32 miles)
Total: 370 km (230 miles)
