Simply Spectacular: Day 87 - checking out Gros Morn National Park
We were close enough that taking a day off the bikes and renting a car would get us there and back, but far enough away that biking there would have added several days onto our trip.
One way or another after getting onto the rock and talking to everyone here, we knew we had to get out to Gros Morn. It was about time for another rest day so the decision was made, the three of us, Mark , Kirsten and I would rent a car in Corner Brook and drive to Gros Morn for the day. Cindy very kindly agreed to put us up for another night. The weather even cooperated and the forecasted heavy rain never happened and by the time we got to the park it was clearing up and blue sky was on the western horizon.
What we saw of Gros Morn was simply beautiful. It's also pretty safe to say that we also barely touched on what's in the park. What we did was similar to someone going to Banff Park and taking a drive up to Lake Louise and doing a short hike around the lake. Very beautiful but just scratching the surface of what's there. That scratch though was enough to make us all want to come back here and spend some serious time hiking and exploring the area. Remote coves and fishing villages, 700 m cliffs and fjords, both fresh water and sea. This place should be on everyone's to-do lost.
A few pics (and iPhone cameras don't do this place justice).
Back on the bikes tomorrow, six days and less than 700 km to go.
Lighthouse at Lobster Point Cove. Only three people were ever in charge of this place, and two of them were a father and son who looked after it for almost seventy years. This is a remote place now, and up until the last twenty years it would have been incredibly remote
