East Rochester to Herikmer
The weather turned beautiful on this day, a true Indian summer day. We felt like we had a tailwind pushing us along the entire day. When we visited the local bike shop the day before, the mechanic told us to visit Chittenango, the home of L. Frank Baum, author of the Wizard of Oz and the All Things Oz Museum. (Next time around I will visit it.)
We cycled into the town of Canastota and met one of the local judges who guided us to a bagel shop. We left the trail to find water and ended up circling around before getting back on the trail.
It was rough going from Rome to Utica, the trail here was overgrown and rough. We were happy to reach the Utica area where the trail improved considerably. There is a great deal to see in Utica area, but the trail goes along the outskirts so you don't actually pass through it. You are on a side road through Frankfurt, and the trails starts again in Ilion. We captured some gorgeous fall photos along the canal here.
As the day started to cool down we entered Herkimer and opted a local Days Inn and walked to dinner. We cycled 75 miles(121 km) with the help of a trail wind and extremely mild weather!
