Auburn to East Rochester

The Harriet Tubman Historical Park is well worth the visit and be sure to get a guided tour. I grew up learning about her work on the underground railroad, but I had no idea what an entrepreneur she was.  She set up this farm and had members of her family and local community help her. She made meat pies and root beer and sold them to the locals.

From here we headed to Skaneateles Lake stopping at a local eatery on the lake as the weather was cool and cloudy. With the weather improving and staying dry we knew we wanted to get back on the canal trail trail near Syracuse. We hit some fairly steep hills skirting our way on the backroads.

We entered the Syracuse area near the State Fairgrounds crossing over the I-90 and finding ourselves on the very serene Onondaga Lake just as the skies began to turn blue! The whole canalway into Syracuse was tastefully down as parts of the city have been restored housing quaint shops. .

Just as the bikeway heads out of Rochester and into East Rochester, there are a range of hotels. We stayed overnight at the Hampton Inn and Suites. We walked down the street and had a fantastic dinner at a Thai restaurant.  At this point the bikeway runs down the middle of Erie Boulevard East and gradually turns into a stone dust trail near Green Lakes State Park. Here you enter the Old Erie Canal State Historic Park.
