A Ferry Trip to Asia: It's Market Day in Kadikoy - Sali Pazari
We love markets and we have loved Asia on past trips, so it made sense to us to take a ride on a ferry across the Bosphorous Sea to the Asia side and go to the market.
Istanbul is wonderfully situated alongside water and one can easily take scenic tours on ferries to many interesting destinations. For 3 lira and in only half an hour on the public ferry, you can reach Asia.
We walked for quite a distance through the District of Kadikoy to reach the market. We enjoyed being in an area which caters to locals and not tourists. The main market here is every Tuesday and it is massive - a virtual tent city.
To say that you can buy anything imaginable here is an understatement. The sights and smells assault you as you arrive, plus the sounds of vendors calling out and the clamour of the shoppers crowding the stalls for bargains give you a sense of excitement.
We spent hours here sampling food, people watching and generally just enjoying the spectacle of a dynamic market.
