Today we finally began our ride on the Erie Canalway Trail.

John ScanlanKimsan,
Take good notes, because this trail is on my to-do list.

It is already starting to remind me of other rail trails I have ridden.

The beginning of the trail was shady and the skies were a little bit cloudy. Eventually the sun came out and the day warmed up a lot.

A beautiful day for cycling. The trail was not too busy but it was great to see people enjoying it. I had several stretches all to myself for miles at a time.

Cycle touring at its finest

John ScanlanKimsan,
Flat, paved, and shaded . . . you just can't hate that.

The trail is used year round.

Good idea

What a nice place in Sprakers. Although we wouldn’t need need to camp here this time, it was great to see they are here.

I signed the guest book and put a pin in their map by Atlantic Beach.

We arrived at St Johnsville Marina for tonight’s camping.

At tonight’s marina campground

John ScanlanKimsan,
Is that campground on the canal? It looks awfully wide.

Looking out at the canal from campsite. We had that tailwind today.

John ScanlanKimsan,
Let me amend a previous comment. Flat, paved, shaded, and a tail wind . . . you just can't hate it.

Both of us excited for a day without traffic, on the Erie Canal Trail.

Some would say it's a boring ride. But it beats traffic and minimal shoulder every single day! Stopped at St Johnsville Marina for the night. Just across the bridge off the Erie Canal Trail. Clean Bathrooms. $10 per tent. Electric and water. Bring noise canceling ear phones if you want to rest.

Sunset over the quiet (or so I thought) railroad tracks.
