Picking Up The Pace

Yass to Gundagai

After yesterday’s very relaxed ride we decided to pedal a bit faster and further today. 102 km brought us to Gundagai with 925 metres ascents in 5hrs 30 mins and an 18.5 km/hr average. Lots of downhill runs helped.

The afternoon temperature was in the 30s with full sunshine, so we arrived in Gundagai feeling a bit baked.

We need to reach Deniliquin by next Saturday afternoon to participate in a launch event for the Bruce Simpson Rural Scholarship Fund. Hence the motivation to cover some reasonable  distances … about 100km daily… over the next five days.

We are also riding these first few days on a main highway. The Hume Motorway. It’s noisy with heavy vehicles but does have a full width shoulder lane so feels reasonably safe. And the gradients are reasonable.

Nevertheless we’ll be pleased to turn off it onto country roads at Holbrook tomorrow.
