Bendigo to Daylesford
As they say in the classics, today’s ride was undulating. About 83kms of undulating from Bendigo to Daylesford.
There were about a 1050 metres of uphill within those undulations, which gave some of the best high views so far on this ride.
Bendigo to Castlemaine was ridden on quiet backroads suggested by RideWithGPS. Castlemaine to Daylesford we did on a main road which was almost devoid of heavy vehicles.
A highlight of today was seeing a 700+ year old tree.
Other than being venerable, its other claim to fame was being near a campsite used by the party sent to rescue the ill fated Burke and Wills expedition which came to a sticky end about a 2000km from here in the late 1800s. A long way for a rescue party to travel.
The temperature was close to perfect for riding today which helped enormously on the repeated climbs.
And we ate and drank well with several rest breaks.
