Things for small minds to ponder

Farm animals in Great Britain enjoy some of the best living conditions I have seen. Sheep and cows have lush grass to feast on, clean air, leprechauns dancing in the fields at night for company (in Ireland anyway, or so I hear). The animals are not overcrowded like many American farm animals. They have acres of fresh green to nap on. So why are these cows are laying in their own, well, shit, instead of the clean grass?
