Short day as we wind down: Visiting with Carol and her service/therapy dog, Rosie
Kim writes:
We had some firewood left from last night, so had a morning campfire too.
John writes:
For the first time on our adventure, I started a morning fire with wood left over from last night and a single glowing ember. It really helped to take off the morning chill, as did Kim's tea. Then we pedaled back into Empire to eat subs at the Village Inn; after which, we hit M22 south. Man oh man oh man, you just can't climb those monstrous hills with a bread bomb in your gut and cold muscles. Plus, those hills were steep! Within the first two miles we had to dismount our bikes and push them to the top of the next hill.
Once M22 leveled out, we pedaled to the house of our next Warmshowers hosts, Carol and her dog, Rosie. Carol's shower doesn't work, so I hopped into Platte Lake in my bicycle clothes. Tonight, we treated Carol to dinner at TJ's 50s Diner in Honor, Michigan, and now we have our sleeping bags on the floor of her porch. Is this a great country or what?
Today's ride: 20 miles (32 km)
Total: 944 miles (1,519 km)
