Day 32 - 45 miles 1197 miles total!! Santa Cruz to Seaside Day 33 - 13 miles total 1210
We made it! Home.....we said we wanted to do it in a month and we did a month and one day. Not to bad....we also said we were going to Monterey which we planned to do but as the day wore on we just wanted to go home - which was our starting point. We arrived home to a surprise welcoming! Our wonderful neighbors had made a welcome home sign, hung a happy face balloon on the car and greeted us with hugs and congratulations! It really felt like a wonderful homecoming....thanks so much Marilyn, Shirley and Karen. You guys a so great!! They took wonderful care of my flowers too they look better than when I left. About 40 minutes after we arrived home Catherine called and she was just a few blocks away. It was good to share our arriving at home with her as we have been on the road together for almost three weeks. Nearly the entire trip we are so glad to have had her to ride and camp with for so long. To our surprise Marilyn even made dinner for us and we ate a wonderful pasta and salad dinner for us. Thanks again Marilyn...and for the welcome home basket in the house ....to kind. I didn't have to think last night at all! Don't think I could every thing is a little fuzzy right now....so many emotions. The ride from SC to Monterey is mostly on back county roads through beautiful farm lands. I never realized that there was so much land west of Hwy 1 but there is and it is not flat as we had thought. Seems CA is the state of never ending hills. The day was mostly foggy but just about Moss Landing the sun came out and it was a beautiful homecoming. I am going to put together an after log of thoughts but will take a few days to clear my head. We both were very emotional about the ending it has been a wonderful trip and experience. We will get back to you with after thoughts. This morning we took Catherine downtown so we did make it to Monterey. She took us to breakfast and we rode with her to Hwy 1 South entrance. Which has this awful hill that nearly kept me from going on the trip. I remember thinking if I can not make up this I just can not go and guess what 1200 miles later it is still just as hard!! We have decided that some hills just never get easier!!! And I am glad I went anyway because I was able to to do it!! PS : Sorry no pictures of SC beach/ boardwalk. We took the most direct route in and out of town.....as Jack said we had been there done that before. Leaving Santa Cruz
