Day 28 - 44 miles Sea Ranch to Bodega Bay
Let's just say this was NOT our best or favorite day of the trip! It was very foggy, cold, winding, twisting, climbing and descending ride!! The first 10 miles or so were pretty nice rolling hills. We stopped at Stewarts Point Store on the advise of our friends and had a wonderful breakfast plum crumb cake. WoW it was good. The store has been in operation since 1868 it was really something to see. Back on the road we started to have much steeper climbs with very steep downhills. This brought us to Fort Ross State Park. It was a Russian fort is all I know. Jack says that Mexico was very close to selling CA to the Russians. Need to read up on it when I get home. After Ft Ross the real fun started we had an incredibly long climb with no shoulder and the fog was blowing so hard we could barely see. As it turns out it might have been a good thing not to see as the cliffs were steep and there were no rails much of the time - this was just a little more nerve racking than we expected. Then the down into Jenner was long and twisty. I had to brake so much that my left thumb is now hurting so bad I am not sure how the rest of the trip will go. I will try not to use it as much as possible and I am taking Aleve to see if that helps. We finally made it into Bodega Bay and have a little cottage right on the mud flats of the bay. As we passed the Bodega Bay State Park we both knew we are really over camping!! We will camp tonight as there are no other options but for the most part we are looking for rooms the rest of the way home.......which if all goes well should be Monday the 13th. We started on the 12th of August and wanted to do it in a month and we will be pretty darn close. Stewart's Point Store
