Day 22 - 8 miles Garberville,CA to Richardson Grove State Park
Yes, eight miles counts as a rest day. We didn't leave the hotel until 10:30am and arrived at the park before noon. We have been sight seeing in the park - beautiful redwoods and a ton of misquotes to keep us company. Had to bring out the Jungle Juice. That stuff really works they don't even come near you.We just returned from the river it was really nice and cool down there. We will do the first 20'ish miles of the hill tomorrow taking us up the first 1200 ft. Then Sat we will go over the top. We really enjoyed our afternoon and evening yesterday. Resting, wine and cheese tasting at the hotel then a big old burger for dinner. We made a good decision to stop. Jack's knee is feeling better today. It is time to talk Road Kill-- I am including a picture of a beautiful butterfly I tried to save today but he probably didn't make it. was able to get him off the road where he was spinning in circles and onto the grass. Let's hope he made it - if not he is my saddest Road Kill spotting. I have tried to keep a running list but here are the highlights. Birds - in the dozens. Bridges seem to be extremely hazardous for them.Squirrels - double digests.Skunks - 5Porcupines - 3Deer - 1Sea Star - in the Rewoods high up......1 - how? Weasel - 1Butterfly - 1 maybe savedOwl or hawk - 1Unidentified except by smell - 10Bridges.....just a side note the couple of bridges we have been on in the last two days have been way scarier than all the ones in Oregon!! They are very high off the ground and have NO railing at all maybe 6inches at the most. With the wind from big trucks and the cross winds I was afraid of being blown off so- I practically rode in the middle of the road!!! Leaving Garberville
