Sitting out a typhoon - Six Wheels Through Japan and South Korea Part 3 - CycleBlaze

Sitting out a typhoon

We chose well for our shelter from the storm…a typhoon that is. Sun Hotel in Otake is the latest addition to this hotel chain and we were impressed.  Everything  works well here…a great staff who make anything possible, an onsen, excellent breakfast included, comfortable spaces and a place inside for our trikes.
It is hard to believe a typhoon is coming as the weather was beautiful when we checked in. But as  forecast, we awoke to light rain, which changed to heavy rain with  water on the roads and sidewalks rising.  The next day the rain really came with a vengeance. Never saw heavy rain like that before. The good thing is that the wind was not too bad.

Glad we are not riding or camping in this.

The breakfast, which is included in the room rate, is an authentic Japanese experience. We get the impression that few foreign visitors come and stay in this town and the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

There was much interest in our trikes…these unusual looking trikes always help to break the ice.

We ventured out for a Ramen dinner next door. It was cold, raining and windy, but worth the trip as the food was great.

Barry’s Ramen had pork belly, chunks of pork, eggs and delicious broth.

Mary Ellen had rice, chicken kaarage and gyoza. We had a great time. These are the flavours we think about and yearn for when we are at home.

The storm has really ramped up on our second day here. A good time to visit the onsen in the hotel. The mountains are hidden by the storm, the rain is deafening and the wind has picked up. So glad we were able to get a third night. Tomorrow’s forecast is for a normal sunny day.
