We are grateful for the existence of the Red Princess Bike Hotel. We have committed to riding shorter days on the return and the location of the Red Princess is ideal. It and one other place, (which was sold out), are the only places to stay in this area along the route for the next 50 km. We didn’t stop here when riding north and had to ride for 75-80 km. It was too much for ME’s knees and Barry admitted we would only do that again if we had to. Oh, the joys of an aging body and getting older! Nonetheless, a bit of compromise is preferable to giving up. Cyclists love this place, the Red Princess. It is full of bike themed decor and enjoys many testimonials from guests. The couple who run it are very pleasant and the fellow is a bike enthusiast. A thoughtful and unusual feature of the Red Princess is that there is a wing of individual, lockable parking rooms for each bike. Trust me, that is unusual.
We are mystified by the wild fluctuations of temperature and weather here. One day it is hot…very hot and the next day it can be close to zero with heavy winds. One day you are stripping down and the next you wear everything you can that you have in your pannier. What’s the expression?…. What makes you struggle, makes you stronger. .
Our colourful, very cold room at the Red Princess. Surprisingly, we had a good sleep. The situation vastly improved when we discovered that there was a way to heat the mattress. We didn’t venture out from under the covers unless “nature called” as it was the ice age in the room and the bathroom.
You know the room is cold when you decide against a shower. After a very cold day of riding yesterday, we crawled under the covers and didn’t want to move. Reading and Netflix kept us occupied and then early to sleep
One of the four different wallpaper designs in our room.
As we were riding a up a long 13% hill we noticed that people had inscribed messages and their names with pieces of rock on the concrete. We decided to follow the tradition and added our names.
At the top of the mountain we met Chris and Jen. They are both in the US military. Chris was stationed in Korea and they were bikepacking from Seoul to Busan on very nice road bikes
This corgi was sitting in the middle of the road when we arrived in Namji. He was not interested at all with the idea of moving when cars came down the road
We are staying at the Heitz Love motel as we were so happy with our accommodation on the way north. The only change is the addition of a Christmas carousel in the lobby
We are again storing our trikes in the children’s playroom. However, the owners of touring bikes have the opportunity to store their bikes in special bike rooms on each floor
