Saturday Aug 30: Istanbul - Bosphorus - Istanbul
Once again sweltering heat, but we hoped the water would keep us cool - wrong when yours truly suggests we sit on the sunny side of the ferry. I just about melted away.
But, the trip was beautiful and we actually saw the Black Sea! At the terminus of the ferry, we climbed up the hill to the Byzantine fortress ruins where the look over the Black Sea was amazing. It was like climbing a ladder, though, to get there.
Upon returning to Istanbul, we headed to the Spice Market for, among other things, saffron, for the equivalent of about $10 CDN per kg. Not bad. There was a crush of people so we escaped back to the Side Hotel and for supper on my last evening in Istanbul. Of course, along the way to the restaurant we were asked about 5 times in 5 minutes to eat at this, that or the other restaurant - between being asked to see their carpets. Very interesting.
