Time to Get Out of Here
Bus Ride to Kampot
The change from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh was drastic. Normally when you're on a bike you see things change slowly, but for some reason it was all very abrupt ever since leaving Siem Reap. I didn't like what was happening. There was no real solid explanation for it, but thanks to the conversation earlier at Internations there was no way I'd be going to Sihanoukville. Surely there had to be political reasons for all this.
So where to exactly? Reports all told me that Kampot was a nice oasis from all the bullshit and with time running out on this trip, that seemed a logical place to go. It would have to be the bus unfortunately. So I found the station and folded up the bike and off the bus went. It turned out to be a pretty awful bus ride. Kids were screaming and getting more and more restless so I found a chance to get off the bus when they stopped at the beach resort of Kep and just rode the remaining 20km to Kampot in the dark.
But it was also heavily raining, and the road was total shit. Eventually I found a gas station, washed off the bike, then kept going to the backpacker waterpark I was aiming for. Thank goodness for WiFi at the last gas station, I could plot a course on Google Maps. Otherwise it would be impossible to find.
In the total pitch blackness my GPS goes "In 150 meters turn right" and it sends me down a rocky mud road in the darkness. Then it says "You will arrive at your destination in 400 meters" and I sure did.
