Crossing the Mekong in a kayak to see dolphins
Together with 8 other tourists and 2 guides, I kayaked across the Mekong River. After a swim and some more kayaking, we stopped on the river bank to watch the dolphins.
These dolphins are normally found in fresh water, but use the sea to spread from river to river. (So it is strictly speaking not a river dolphin) In the Mekong, their numbers have declined dramatically due to irresponsible fishing activities: Fishing with explosives, fishing with electricity and fishing with toxins. The Cambodian government have stepped in, but it's unclear if this population will survive.
Then it was back across the Mekong by kayak and back to Kratie by truck.
