Ian, Day 3 - Meeting Winston in Hanoi

I recovered well from last night's trials, had an exotic sleep and went for an orientation wander before downing a couple of bowls of congee.

The entry to Green Homestay - down a laneway.

That's our penthouse where it says "Homestay". There's a mere 86 steps from the ground floor. There's no need to ride a bicycle to keep fit!

With that done I gathered my things and set off to meet Winston's flight from Korea that was arriving at 11.10. For once I was conservative in timing and gave myself an hour and a half for the 26 km - plenty of time to repair a puncture or an error in navigation.

On the way I crossed the Red River on the Cau Nhat Tan bridge. Boats plied below loaded or empty of sand.

John GrantThey don't leave much freeboard on those sand boats ! I swear I saw a bloke chasing the seagulls off the boat to reduce weight !

I was at the airport in plenty of time despite Winston's plane from Seoul arriving early. I marched into departures and positioned myself in a prominent position.

Try doing this in Sydney or LA

I waited a long time but Winston didn't appear. Surely we didn't need to agree a meeting place with one arrivals gate. I was looking for a person pushing a large box! Winston, without bike, finally found me standing in a prominent place with a yellow bike. He had spent time filling in lost luggage information.

Winston got the 86 bus into Hanoi and I returned by bicycle.

What chewed up time in the afternoon was tracking Winston's bike with great help from "Four" (no idea of how to spell it). The bike's on its way and will be delivered late tonight - fingers crossed.

We never did take a photo at the airport but here's Winston enjoying dinner. Yes, he's a filthy meat eater!
